In 1880, the roots of our church began in a Blacksmith Shop in Richmond, Virginia. In 1892, as the membership grew, a frame church was established to house the worshipers. By 1914, a cornerstone was laid for the large brick church built on Fairmount Avenue. As the years progressed, on June 24, 1962, in Eastern Henrico County, the new church grounds were broken for the present day, Fairmount United Methodist Church. In 2005, Fairmount United Methodist Church and Bishop Memorial Methodist Church became known as The Eastern Henrico Cooperative Parish with our minister serving both churches.
Our sister church, Bishop Memorial, is another stepping stone added to our church family for sharing in spiritual growth. Each Sunday, Fairmount offers Sunday School for adults and children. Our church service includes a childrens' moments. A nursery is also provided. Communion is held on the first Sunday of each month. All are welcomed at the table who profess Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.
Throughout the year, we offer many activites such as church picnics, covered dish dinners, programs, yard sales and community days. Christmas and Easter are celebrated with much joy for the birth and the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Our United Methodist Women give much of their time and service to volunteer projects as do the men of our church. Westview on the James provides a retreat for young and old alike. The church stays active by giving of their time in the enrichment of our faith. As disciples in Christ, we endeavor to live by the word of Jesus.
